Businesses should do anything they can to legally and ethically make a profit. This includes following employment and labor laws, workplace safety laws, and various other laws that regulate the way a business is run and operated for the safety and fair treatment of not only customers, but also employees. If all laws and regulations are being obeyed and met, then businesses should do anything they can above and beyond that to make a profit.

Ethical behavior in turn creates more business due to customer loyalty, brand engagement and employee health and wellness. When a company conducts business in a legal and ethical manner, they are gaining customer loyalty by showing potential customers that they hold themselves to a high standard of moral fortitude, which in turn increases engagement with the brand overall. As well, as the shift continues into the new millennium and the millennial generation begins to saturate the workplace, businesses behaving in a moral way will attract better employees as they prove they are out to do more than just make a profit.
Good Corporation held a debate in 2012 and found that “rather than being an added cost, business ethics was really all about the right way to do business. Viewed in this light, it was argued that ethics did not require a separate budget, as it was really a question of doing what was necessary to run a business but doing it ethically.” This is evidence that ethics and legality should be placed as top priority in running a business and profit should be focused on after these areas are well established.
In conclusion, it is agreed that businesses should do anything they can to make a profit as long as it is legally and morally sound.
