In the United States, we are fortunate to live in the only country in the world where the insurance companies know more about our healthcare needs than our own physicians. Our doctors are forced to seek approval for doing their jobs in order to ensure that they will get paid. One way to correct this problem and return healthcare back to the professionals is to adopt a universal healthcare system.

A universal healthcare system is one that is backed and run by the government and offers healthcare to every individual in the nation regardless of wealth, employment, pre-existing conditions, race, religious background, and age. The United States is the only industrialized nation in the world that does not have a universal healthcare system. Here are just a couple of reasons why a universal healthcare system is needed in America.
First, the cost of healthcare in the United States is out of control. Even with every individual in the nation covered by health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, healthcare is still too expensive for many citizens. Even with insurance coverage a family can easily become thousands of dollars in debt from one accident or serious illness. With a universal healthcare system, all medical expenses would be covered.
Our medical professionals currently spend too much time on insurance paperwork. It is estimated that 16% of every dollar spent for medical attention goes toward administrative expenses. Doctors and their staff are currently spending about 20% of their time dealing with insurance companies, getting approval for procedures or just completing the necessary paperwork. A universal healthcare system would simplify the paperwork, reduce the cost of healthcare, and free up the doctor’s time to allow more time to be spent with patients.
A universal healthcare system is much needed in the United States in order to allow all citizens to have an equal access to medical care. It is time to remove the profit motive from our healthcare and focus on quality medical care.
